Nikon Coolscan V Ed Firmware Update Download
I have a Nkon Coolscan V film scanner. I cannot get Windows 7 to recognize the device. Do any of you know if this is compatible to the Windows 7 64bit OS? Since Nikon stopped supporting their Coolscan scanners under Windows 7, and beyond, a modified driver was created back in 2009. Since then, it has been the defacto driver when running under 7 and beyond. However, under Windows 8/10 you’ll need to at least temporarily disable DSE for it to install. After that, complete step 9 and you're done. The Nikon Coolscan V is limited in resolution only the film grain itself. Nikon made a line of fantastic digital film scanners in the 2000s, but unfortunately has ceased production of new units. Demand, however, has remained steady, driving up prices of the few units still in the wild. The newest scanners are the Nikon Coolscan 5000 (35mm).
About this software: This is the full install version of Nikon Scan version 4.0.3 for computers running Windows Vista only. It cannot be installed on computers running Windows operation systems other than Windows Vista. This software is compatible with the following film scanners. SUPER COOLSCAN 9000ED; SUPER COOLSCAN 8000ED; SUPER COOLSCAN 5000ED.
I have updated to the latest version of SilverFast 8 for the Nikon Coolscan V ED. I am running OS X Mavericks on the latest MacBook Pro with Retina display. When I launch the software a dialog box comes up that says what is below:'SilverFast has been updated. There are still files that require an update to be compatible. SilverFast will temporarily disable the outdated modules, Please update your SilverFast software for: Nikon Family.'

When I click the 'OK' button on that window the application opens but gives me the following message:
'SilverFast was not able to detect any scanner supported by your installed scan module.'
I have connected the scanner directly to my MacBook Pro via a known good USB cable. My MacBook Pro does not seem to recognize the scanner. When I open up the Print/Scan area of in System Preferences the Nikon scanner does not appear. When I go into the System Report the Nikon scanner does not appear under USB devices.
