Engine

You can make Wallpaper Engine launch when your computer starts by going to the Wallpaper Engine settings and navigating to the 'General' tab. At the top, you can enable the automatic startup option which will launch the application quietly in the background whenever your system boots up.

# What is the difference between 'high-priority' and the 'normal' start-up option?

Wallpaper engine software download

When you select the high-priority option, Wallpaper Engine will register a Windows service. This means that Wallpaper Engine will start before other programs you have configured to automatically start alongside Windows. It will not affect the performance of the application in any other way.

The downside to using this high-priority option is that it can be less reliable, mainly due to the fact that some antivirus will overreact and block Wallpaper Engine from starting in this mode because they misidentify this as malicious behavior.

# I have enabled the automatic startup but it is not working, what can I do?

Wallpaper Engine Software

If you are using the high-priority option, try to switch to normal automatic start-up by disabling the high-priority option. As explained above, high-priority mode starts quicker but is less reliable for various reasons, mainly because it is sometimes blocked by antivirus software.

If you are using normal-priority option and the app is not launching alongside Windows, try changing the option to high-priority and see if the problem goes away.

If neither the high-priority or normal-priority option work for you, check the antivirus software you have installed on your system. Some antivirus and firewall applications sometimes block Wallpaper Engine from automatically starting when your computer boots up. Your antivirus software likely has a 'whitelist' feature which allows you to ignore certain folders or applications, make sure to whitelist the wallpaper_engine install directory and all executables in it.

Another rare cause can be that if you (or an application on your system) set the Wallpaper Engine .exe files to be run as admin only then it cannot automatically start either, you will need to remove the admin setting and toggle the automatic startup off and back on.

If the automatic startup does not work, the answer virtually always is somehow related to overzealous antivirus software. If you have antivirus or firewall applications installed, please double-check all their settings and security levels.

# Wallpaper Engine starts with Windows but (some) wallpapers are not shown

Check if the Wallpaper Engine icon is visible in the Windows tray next to the clock after you start your computer. If the icon is there after your system starts but either some or none of your monitors have their respective wallpapers shown, there is a problem with your graphics card drivers. Essentially, your graphics card drivers keep assigning your monitors new identifiers which leads Wallpaper Engine to believe that you are trying to configure a new monitor. You can fix this by changing the 'Monitor identification' option in the General tab of the Wallpaper Engine settings to Layout or GDI. We also recommend that you do a clean re-installation of your graphics card drivers in this case, as it's an indicator for an underlying problem with your Windows installation.

# Wallpaper Engine assigns wrong wallpapers at system start-up

This is the same problem as in the previous section, if you have multiple monitors and the wallpapers are being assigned to the wrong monitor at start-up, try changing the Monitor identification option in the General tab of the Wallpaper Engine settings to Layout or GDI.

Wallpaper Engine supports Razer Chroma and Corsair iCUE, including systems which may integrate into either ecosystem.

# How do I enable / disable RGB hardware

In the 'Plugins' section of the Wallpaper Engine settings, you can find the iCUE & Chroma SDK plugin. You can enable or disable this general RGB plugin from being loaded by marking the checkbox on the left. You can also click on the cogwheel symbol next to it to further configure individual parts of it.

Additionally, RGB support can be toggled off on each wallpaper. At the top of each wallpaper's property list, you can find the Enable LED effects option if the plugin is enabled which allows you to control if you want an individual wallpaper to control your RGB lights.

# The RGB hardware colors seem too bright

By default, we are boosting the RGB colors a bit. On most wallpapers, this tends to subjectively look better but if you do not like it, you can turn it off by disabling the Boost LED colors option in the settings of the RGB plugin.

# My RGB hardware does not work

Wallpaper Engine is not capable of directly communicating to your RGB hardware, all color information are sent to the RGB drivers first. If one or more pieces of hardware are not working, the issue must be on the software side of your hardware vendor. Some very old hardware is not fully supported anymore by these hardware vendors and will not work. Keep in mind that this is nothing we can fix on our end.

If the Plugin section of Wallpaper Engine settings is not visible at all to you, you are likely missing or have a broken installation of the Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2015 which is mandatory for these features to work. You can download this package from the Microsoft website and install it, this should fix the issue after a system restart:

# Problems with RGB hardware after hibernation

In rare cases, hibernation may cause RGB hardware to stop working in combination with Wallpaper Engine. If some or all of your RGB hardware stops working correctly after your system wakes up from hibernation, try enabling the Safe start after hibernation option in the General tab of the Wallpaper Engine settings, this solves these types of issues for the majority of affected users.

Additionally, you can use the Plugin load delay option at the bottom of the Plugins tab of the Wallpaper Engine settings to delay the connection attempt that Wallpaper Engine makes to your RGB hardware. You can try a value of 30 seconds and test if that fixes the problem for you.

# Corsair

Some hardware such as Corsair system memory (RAM) have software controls disabled by default, meaning that your memory modules will not light up according to Wallpaper Engine unless you allow this in the iCUE software settings. Make sure the 'Enable full software control' option in your iCUE device settings in the memory section is selected:

Double-check this option for any other hardware parts which are not working properly.

Note that iCUE is used in exclusive mode, this means that Wallpaper Engine will take priority over other iCUE-compatible software such as games. If you want your games to animate your keyboard, go to the Performance tab of the Wallpaper Engine settings and set the Other applications fullscreen option to Stop (free memory) to stop wallpapers while in-game. Alternatively, disable either the RGB plugin or disable the RGB option on individual wallpapers.

Wallpaper Engine Software Icon Download

We only support Razer Synapse 3 or newer. If you are using Razer Synapse 1 or Razer Synapse 2, make sure to fully uninstall them and upgrade to the latest version of Razer Synapse. In the past, some users had issues with remnants of old Razer Synapse having been left on their system. If you had Razer Synapse 2 or older installed and have issues with your RGB lighting or even experience crashes with the RGB plugin being enabled, you may need to find any leftovers of old Razer Synapse versions on your system and delete it.

If your Razer hardware is relatively old and does not support Razer Synapse 3 or newer, unfortunately its RGB lighting is not compatible with Wallpaper Engine.
